The Dash Universe Fics by chezchuckles, particularly dash away, because I was in a really bad place, bored while being treated by a chronic disease and that kept me busy, she’s one of my favorite authors cause she manages to keep the essence of the characters even when she’s writing au
Robin Williams didn’t die from suicide. I only just heard the sad, sad news of Robin Williams’s death. My wife sent me a message to tell me he had died, and, when I asked her what he died from, she told me something that nobody in the news seems to be talking about.
When people die from cancer, their cause of death can be various horrible things – seizure, stroke, pneumonia – and when someone dies after battling cancer, and people ask “How did they die?”, you never hear anyone say “pulmonary embolism”, the answer is always “cancer”. A Pulmonary Embolism can be the final cause of death with some cancers, but when a friend of mine died from cancer, he died from cancer. That was it. And when I asked my wife what Robin Williams died from, she, very wisely, replied “Depression”.
The word “suicide” gives many people the impression that “it was his own decision,” or “he chose to die, whereas most people with cancer fight to live.” And, because Depression is still such a misunderstood condition, you can hardly blame people for not really understanding. Just a quick search on Twitter will show how many people have little sympathy for those who commit suicide…
But, just as a Pulmonary Embolism is a fatal symptom of cancer, suicide is a fatal symptom of Depression. Depression is an illness, not a choice of lifestyle. You can’t just “cheer up” with depression, just as you can’t choose not to have cancer. When someone commits suicide as a result of Depression, they die from Depression – an illness that kills millions each year. It is hard to know exactly how many people actually die from Depression each year because the figures and statistics only seem to show how many people die from “suicide” each year (and you don’t necessarily have to suffer Depression to commit suicide, it’s usually just implied). But considering that one person commits suicide every 14 minutes in the US alone, we clearly need to do more to battle this illness, and the stigmas that continue to surround it. Perhaps Depression might lose some its “it was his own fault” stigma, if we start focussing on the illness, rather than the symptom. Robin Williams didn’t die from suicide. He died from Depression*. It wasn’t his choice to suffer that.
Robin William's movies were really popular in the children's wing when I spent months in there after an accident, I remember I was so sick of them at some point but couldn't spend one day without seeing them...
RIP the funniest man in my opinion, he gave me joy when everything was grey, I hope he is resting in piece now
“Before you say yes, get him angry. See him scared, see him wanting, see him sick. Stress changes a person. Find out if he drinks and if he does, get him drunk - you’ll learn more about his sober thoughts. Discover his addictions. See if he puts you in front of them. You can’t change people, baby girl. If they are made one way, it doesn’t just wear off. If you hate how he acts when he’s out of it now, you’re going to hate it much worse eight years down the road. You might love him to bits but it doesn’t change that some people just don’t fit.”—
okay, then maybe tumblr ate it... I just asked for a prompt where the twins wake caskett up in the middle of the night asking "Is it time to go yet?" cuz they are too excited to go to disney world
She wakes first to the feeling of feet against their mattress. It’s funny, before they were parents, Castle always woke up first. Whether it was to get them coffee or to nab the shower before she could take all of the hot water, it was a constant. When her eyes peel open into the darkness, she sighs gently and tilts her head to the clock. It’s only three am and she thinks if James and Hanna are on the bed, it means they haven’t slept much.
"Mommy!" James is alive when he notices she’s awake and she groans, knowing there’s no playing asleep and hoping they’ll leave them alone. Hanna bounces to her father’s side, jumping on his chest and she grimaces as she hears the loud ‘oof’ from her husband as he’s rudely awakened from his sleep."It time to go?"
Kate flicks her bedside lamp on and lifts her eyes to meet her son’s. He’s so much like his father in looks and ways. “No, my sweet boy,” she shakes her head and runs her fingers through his hair. “We still have a few more hours of sleep.”
James makes a sound that resembles a whine and Hanna joins, although she’s not too sure her eighteen month old has a concept of what is going on, really. She knows her eldest is the captain of this mission. “But Mommy…” he trails off, his lips curling in a pout. “We go now.”
"James," Rick’s voice is filled with sleepiness and she sighs as she drops her hand to his forehead, brushing back his sleep strewn hair. "Our flight doesn’t leave until 8. You know how long that is?"
They’ve been trying desperately to teach their son the concept of time, especially since telling him and his younger sibling about the trip. She sees her son look for the clock and then lift his hand. “One.. two.. free.. four.. five hours, Daddy!”
"Good," Castle says, nodding his head. "But that’s a long way away. Still time to sleep." He says gently and palms the back of Hanna’s head. The young girl sprawls on her father’s chest and closes her eyes and before James can argue it any further - she’s asleep. "Lay down, bud." He tells him, patting the space between him and Kate. "If you just sleep another three hours, we’ll be leaving before you know it."
Surprisingly, James doesn’t argue. Instead, he curls into Kate’s side and closes his eyes. “Ok, Daddy.” He says finally. “I be very quiet and sleep.”
"Thank you, my man." Rick ruffles his hair, but Kate can already sense that her husband is falling back asleep, despite his awakening.
It’s times like these that she recognizes just how lucky she is; and how she wouldn’t change one detail for the world.
“Make friends with people who aren’t your age. Hang out with people whose first language isn’t the same as yours. Get to know someone who doesn’t doesn’t come from your social class. This is how you see the world. This is how you grow.”—note to self (via c0ntemplations)
